A Brighton Pier Company Share document 1846. Brighthelmston Suspension Pier Company. (Brighton, formerly had the ancient name "Brighthelmstone). The company was incorporated in 1822. This certificate records a payment of Messrs Hall, West, Borrer and Hall the sum of £3 (Three pounds) being a dividend on two shares in the company. The pier in question was commonly known as the Chain Pier. It was 350 yards long, thirteen feet wide built between the cliff and four cast iron towers. The whole was built upon wooden piles of Norway Fir sunk into the sea pier was paved with Purbeck stone.
