Kylemore Abbey, County Galway, Republic of Ireland. Eire. This Benedictine monastery stands just outside the Connemara National Park. It was built as a lavish family home in 1868 and converted to an abbey in 1920 by Belgian Benedictine nuns whose own abbey in Ypres, Belgium was destroyed in the First World War.
