Waypoint 1, Mars, Curiosity Rover image. 'Darwin' outcrop at Waypoint 1 is an area of land on the Martian surface that was chosen for NASA's Curiosity Rover to study for a few days in September 2013. It was the first during the rover's trek from the 'Glenelg' area, where it worked for the first half of 2013 to an entry point to the lower layers of Mount Sharp. The Curiosity rover is part of the Mars Science Laboratory (MSL) mission. It landed on Mars on 6 August 2012, on a mission to investigate the Martian climate and geology. Image obtained with the Mast Camera (Mastcam) on 7th September 2013.
