In the Solomon Islands, it is a cultural practice for some people, particularly in certain communities, to have red-stained teeth. This practice is known as "betel nut chewing" or "buai chewing." Betel nut is a fruit of the Areca palm tree, which is commonly chewed in many parts of Asia and the Pacific, including the Solomon Islands. When the betel nut is chewed, it releases a red juice that stains the teeth and mouth.
