A German torturer's pinchers,17th century. Forged iron. Large pinchers with long,angled arms. The jaws are shaped like a crocodile's head with long tearing teeth. Length 99 cm. From the Middle Ages into the 18th century,tearing the living bodies of the victims with sharp,or even glowing hot pinchers before execution increased the penalty for wrongdoers. The victims were severely injured,and sometimes even pieces of flesh were torn away. Cf.
