Wolfram von Eschenbach (right) wrote love poetry in a courtly love fashion in German during the Middle Ages.

Wolfram von Eschenbach (c. 1170 - c. 1220) was a German knight and poet. He is considered one of the best epic poets at the time. He also wrote lyric poetry and, much like a troubadour, wrote love poetry in a courtly love fashion in German during the Middle Ages. This miniature includes a portrait of Wolfram (right) from the Codex Manesse, which was a medieval songbook that was written and illustrated between 1300 and 1350. It included 137 miniatures, each depicting a poet—here is Wolfram.
