Lancaster Air Crew January 1944 photographed before the raid on Brunswick


The Royal Air Force raided Brunswick / Braunschweig on 14th January 1944 with 496 Lancasters and 2 Halifax bombers. The targets were machine & munition works, railway installations and the harbour as well as the German aviation research centre. This is the crew of one Lancaster shown in a photo placed at the Runnymede Air Forces Memorial for those lost with no known resting place. 38 Lancasters were 'lost'.
