Thermal ablation uterus

Illustration of thermal ablation of the endometrium with a thermal balloon, used to treat uterine fibromas, polyps and endometriosis. Once the uterus has been visualised with the help of a hysteroscope, a sheath is attached to a small catheter and inserted in the vagina and then level with the cervix is gently placed in the uterus. The sheath is inflated with a liquid in order to fit the contours and dimensions of the uterus. The liquid in the sheath is heated and kept at a target temperature for 8 minutes. When the treatment is finished, the liquid in the sheath is drained and the catheter removed. The internal surface of the uterus to be treated will be evacuated in the same way as during menstruation.
