Brant's whistling rat (Parotomys brantsii) standing on its hind legs outside its burrow. This gregarious rodent builds nests within chambers in a burrow system. It whistles to communicate with neighbouring rats, including warnings about predators. It forages during the day, feeding on seeds and plants.
