Brant's whistling rat (Parotomys brantsii) standing on its hind legs outside its burrow. This gregarious rodent builds nests within chambers in a burrow system. It whistles to communicate with neighbouring rats, including warnings about predators. It forages during the day, feeding on seeds and plants. Photographed in Goegap Nature Reserve, Northern Cape, South Africa.
