The shells are usually quitesolid, with a long, narrow slit for an aperture; the outer lip isthickened on the inside, especially about the middle portion, andis deeply toothed; and the lower portion of the columellar lipis also ribbed or toothed. GENUS Columbella C. mercatoria. This Antilleau species is found in Florida, and isone of the gems among the American shallow-water shells. Its heightis about one half of an inch.
