A figure of Cybele, Roman Provinces, 2nd/3rd century AD. Light coloured marble, with slight patina. Heavily stylized figure of the Goddess Cybele, a lion couchant at her feet. Height cm. The cult of the mother goddess Cybele emerged in Rome during the second century BC, subsequently spreading throughout the Roman Empire and persevering until the fourth century AD.
