A friendly toad at Palomino, Guajira, Colombia, South America

Palomino is located in the municipality of Dibulla part of the department of Guajira and is only 2 meters above sea level. It is one of the five towns that form the municipality of Dibulla. It is located on the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountain. Palomino is located relatively close to the Venezuelan border on the highway that links Santa Marta with Venezuela. It is directly affected by the deteriorating border conditions, floundering trade and diplomatic tensions between Colombia and Venezuela. Palomino’s closeness also makes it easier for terrorist groups to establish transnational drug routes. This intensifies Colombia’s already tense relations with Venezuela Palomino has a tropical humid climate with average temperatures of 24°C (°F) and precipitation of 2,000 to 4,000 mm (78-157 inches) throughout the year. While the temperature is relatively consistent all year round, the weather conditions are irregular and variable due to its proximity to the jungle and closeness to the Caribbean Ocean. Palomino is constantly suffering from floods and from the spiral bands of hurricanes. [edit]
