Research used by eugenicists. Article titled 'Exhibit of Work and Educational Campaign for Juvenile Mental Defectives'. The chart shows levels of 'defectives' ranging from 'idiot' to 'moron'. The article describes the campaigns carried out by the New York Department of Public Charities. It was published in the 11 October 1913 issue of 'The Survey'. This copy of the article is from the Eugenics Record Office (founded 1910), Cold Spring Harbor, New York, USA. Eugenics is the controversial practice of selectively improving the genetics of human populations. One of the aims of eugenicists in this period was to encourage forced sterilisation of the mentally ill.
