Common Frog tadpoles (Rana temporaria). This is a very early stage of development, where the tadpoles have external branching gills. As the tadpoles grow the gills will be covered by a pocket of skin to become internal. The common frog is found throughout most of Europe. The tadpoles are herbivores, feeding on algae, aquatic plants and pond detritus.
