Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy, D-Vt. speaks on Capitol Hill , about President Bush's judicial nomination. The committee agreed to delay for one week a final vote on the nomination of Judge Charles Pickering to be judge of the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeal in New Orleans. Opposition to Pickering has come from civil rights groups who say he supported segregation as a young man in point to numerous examples of support for civil rights as far back as the mid- to late-1960s.
