London Heathrow Airport, London, UK. 9th Dec, 2020. The effect that COVID-19 has had on air travel has resulted in a number of airlines prematurely retiring their Boeing 747 Jumbo Jets. What was initially planned as Virgin Atlantic's final 747 departed Heathrow in October, with remaining planes expected to be scrapped. Since then the final two Virgin 747s have found a saviour in Atlas Air in the US. After flying to Heathrow for maintenance G-VLIP was the first of the two to depart for its new home, with the second – G-VROY – due to go in a week
