An old portrait of Tommy Burns Heavyweight World Boxing Champion 1906-1908, though he he boxed as a Welterweight, Middleweight and Heavyweight during his career.) Born Noah Brusso; June 17, 1881 – May 10, 1955 he was the only Canadian-born World Heavyweight Boxing Champion. He was known for his non-discrimination views and unlike many professionals of his time fought boxers of many nationalities, colours and religious persuasions. He was one of the first whites to fight black boxers and is said to have briefly married a black woman. He also said to have run a New York speakeasy in retirement.
