German officers watching effects of incendiary shelling on Reims


From the Great War published in 1918 photographer uncredited. The Germans occupied Reims for a short period during the German Summer offensive of 1914, but although they withdrew they continued to shell the city for the rest of the war from the heights above causing widespread devastation.
