The sculpture of the teenager of Tamuin San Luis Potosi Mexico. Museo Nacional de Antropologia

he Tamuín Adolescent shows traits associated with the Huasteca elite, such as nudity, head modification, teeth filing, and the use of a nose ring. Her body is adorned with numerous symbols, perhaps tattoos, most of which allude to fertility, such as ears of corn and precious stones. Others represent a supernatural being related to water. The Adolescent represents a being related to fertility, possibly the Young Maize god. This would give meaning to the small figure that he carries on his back: according to a Huastec myth, the god of corn rescued his dead father from the gods of thunder to resurrect him and teach him how to cultivate. That is why he carries it on his back, but he decides to return to the natural world turned into a deer. (text from Arqueologia Mexicana magazine)
