Development of a new pier at Copland's Dock, Sromness, Orkney.

The existing facilities at Stromness although sufficient for most purposes are unable to cope with the extra needs of the increasing marine renewables sector. Work has therefore started on construction of "Copland's Dock" opposite the existing ferry terminal and marina. This will consist of a 100m long pier providing 6m draft at all tides together with 10 ha of land for development and support facilities. It is hoped this will also provide better handling facilities for the fishig fleet and better access for heavy industry. The work is expected to be completed in late 2013.
