Compact fluorescent light bulbs are seen in a Home Depot store in New York

Compact fluorescent light bulbs are seen in a Home Depot store in New York on Tuesday, March 2, 2010. GreeNYC and Home Depot announced the "Switch & Save" campaign to encourage the use of CFL's by giving away bulbs to jump start consumer use. With an average of 20 percent of home energy costs going to lighting, switching to CFL's can reduce monthly energy bills by as much as 25 percent. CFL's contain a trace amount of mercury and must be disposed of properly, and Home Depot has one of the largest disposal programs. (© Richard B. Levine)
