Aerial View of Massey Energy's Brushy Fork Coal Sludge Impoundment

Whitesville, West Virginia - An aerial view of Massey Energy's Brushy Fork coal sludge impoundement, which stores up to eight billion gallons of waste behind a 900-foot high earthen dam. Environmentalists are concerned about toxic chemicals stored in the impoundment and about the danger of the dam failing, which could send a 40-foot high tidal wave of sludge through downstream communities.
