Scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of Marine cyanobacterium (Spirulina platensis) is a Gram-negative, oxygenic, photosynthetic, filamentous cyanobacterium (prokaryote). Spirulina platensis (also known as Spirulina pacifica or Arthrospira platensis) is a marine cyanobacterium in the family Phormidiaceae. A. platensis is known throughout the world for its potential nutritional value. It is one of the rare edible bacteria due to its low purine concentration, which allows it to pose very minimal risk of uric acid build up in the body. The supplement called Spirulina is made in Hawaii, USA. Magnification: x160 when shortest axis printed at 25 millimetres.
