Runners as they cross the State Street Bridge at about the one mile point of Chicago's Shamrock Shuffle race. Chicago hosts its annual Shamrock Shuttle 8K race in late March or early April each year. It serves as an extension of the St. Patrick's Day celebration in the city and heralds the beginning of the running season in the Chicago. The city hosts two very significant races each year, the Shamrock Shuffle at the beginning of the running year with a field of more than 25,000 runners and the Chicago Marathon in October, one of five world major marathons each year, to conclude the season.
