Candle-snuff Fungus (Xylaria hypoxylon) fruiting bodies on the log Adel Woods Leeds West Yorkshire England UK Europe

Candle-snuff Fungus (Xylaria hypoxylon) grows all year round throughout the UK.
It is also called the 'stags horn fungus'. Like a snuffed candle wick it is black at the base, grey in the middle and white at the tips - hence the name.
