Skeleton shrimp (Caprella linearis). Skeleton shrimps (family Caprellidae), also known as ghost shrimps, have slender elongated bodies. The head (cephalon) and two sets of antennae are at top, with the pereon (thorax) down left, and the small (reduced) abdomen at lower centre. Grasping appendages called pereopods are used to cling to underwater substrates such as seaweeds and corals. Skeleton shrimps, found in oceans worldwide, feed on a range of aquatic larvae and detritus. Photographed in the White Sea, Russia.
