Thomas Fairchild () was an English gardener who in 1716 created the world's first man-made hybrid plant, Dianthus Caryophyllus barbatus, known as Fairchild's Mule. It was a cross between a Sweet William (Dianthus barbatus) and a pink carnation (Dianthus caryophyllus).
