Cruising tanks created a desert on sandy ground in the very center of Wilderness Lieberose Heath. This mostly open landscape was created by a bushfire in 1942 and was used later on as a military training area. Since 1994 in this rare Steppe landscape in Germany nature rules. Im Herzen der Lieberoser Heide schufen Panzerketten im Osten Brandenburgs eine Wüstenlandschft. Diese offene Landschaft entstand durch einen Waldbrand 1942 und wurde danach als Truppenübungsplatz der Roten Armee genutzt. Seit 1994 bleibt diese extrem seltene Steppenlandschaft in Deutschland im Wildnisgebiet Lieberoser Heide sich selbst überlassen.
