View NW of the gateway to the south courtyard of Caerau late C17th house N of Llanfairynghornwy, Isle of Anglesey, Wales, UK. The stone gate piers have moulded cornices, gate-stops & ogee-shaped finials which once supported stone globes. The metal gates are relatively modern & do not fit the piers: taller wooden gates were in place before the 1930s. Caerau usually means forts or camps. When this photograpg was taken, this western block (the main Stuart house) was in the care of Ynys Mon County Council, the Georgian eastern block of c 1730 was privately occupied. An iron cannon ball had been placed on the left-hand gate pier.
