Eastern slope of the San Rafael Reef along Interstate 70 in eastern Utah USA


The San Rafael Reef was a barrier to engineers building Interstate 70 . Before the construction of I-70, there had been no paved roads through the Reef, and it became the first major highway following an entirely new route since the Alaska Highway was built in the 1940's.
