Rodeleros (shield bearers). Spanish troops in the early 16th century. They were equipped with swords and steel shields or bucklers, known as rodela. The majority of Hernan Cortes's troops, during the campaings in the New World, were rodeleros. Engraving. Museo Militar, 1883. Later colouration.
