The hair-shaving ceremony during Samanera Day at The Buddhapadipa Temple in Wimbledon, London

At The Buddhapadipa Temple in Wimbledon there is Samanera Day every year. Samanera is a retreat for young boys and lasts 15 days. During that time they practice the Buddha’s Dhamma (the Buddha's teachings). On the first day there is the hair-shaving ceremony. In the morning parents and relatives clip the ordainees' hair and then the monks take over and shave the entire head including eyebrow. The act symbolizes renunciation of all attachment or clinging to the world.
