Old mining remains near St Elmo Ghost Town, in Colorado.

This old mining building is situated on the dirt road leading that connects the two ghost towns of St Elmo and Hancock. The area was the scene of great mining activity at the end of the 19th century when vast amounts of gold and silver were removed from the area. As the gold ran out the mines declined. The railroad, essential for moving supplies, also abandoned the area and the mines eventually closed. The dry air of Colorado keeps the timber structure in remarkably good condition. This structure housed winding gear. Some mines are now worked in a small way, often on a part time basis.
