Local Hero Sculpture on the Oyster bay Trail between Reculver and Herne Bay, Kent, UK

The Local Hero sculptures are part of a national initiative whereby local people vote for heroi characters associated with the area. This sculpture features a pilot from the Dambusters raid. Part of the Damsbuster training took place along this coast as the towers at Reculver were similar to one of the sighting marks used on the raid. Pilot Officer Bill Ottley took part in and died in the raids. The Oyster fisherman celebrates the areas connection with oysters. Finally, the Roman woman remembers the Roman settlement at Reculver.
