Portishead, Somerset, UK. 12th September, 2014. Council officials have taken action after a number of ducks became ill, the cause is believed to be a Blue-Green Algal bloom. North Somerset Council has put up warning signs and barriers around the lake. The signs read: “There is a high level of algal growth in the lake water. Do not enter or allow children or pets to go in the water. Wash your hands after any contact with the lake water.” Today council workmen started to lay booms of Barley Straw to mitigate the effect of the algae. Credit: Mr Standfast/Alamy Live News
