Aeroplane wing model, coloured wind tunnel image. This low-speed airfoil (wing) model is being studied in a smoke-flow-visualization wind tunnel. Here the angle between the wing and the air flow (the angle of attack) is so high that air passing over the upper surface cannot stick to it. Instead, the flow separates and becomes turbulent. This condition is known as a 'stall' and the wing is making no net lift.
