Shown here is a copper engraving dating to 1526 by Albrecht Durer of Philip Melanchton. Philip Melanchthon (died 1560) was a German Lutheran reformer, collaborator with Martin Luther, the first systematic theologian of the Protestant Reformation, an intellectual leader of the Lutheran Reformation, and influential designer of educational systems. Albrecht Durer (died 1528) was a German painter and printmaker. Many consider him the greatest German Renaissance artist.
