1824 woodcut - James Dowson (aka Jemmy Dawson) last meeting with his fiance before being executed for his part in a rebellion. Dowson or Dawson was one of a number of prisoners (including Francis Townley who were arrested for joining a rebellion against the king of England in 1715 . James Dawson was said to be an educated Lancastrian from a good family background.
