A 1930's postcard image of the Monument to the Royal Stuarts in St. Peter's Basilica, in the Papal enclave, Rome, Italy. It commemorates the last three members of the Royal House of Stuart;James Francis Edward Stuart; his eldest son Charles Edward Stuart; and his younger son, Henry Benedict Stuart whom the Jacobites claimed were the true kings of England, Scotland and marble monument ( a truncated obelisk) created by Antonio Canova carries portrait images of the 3 family members and a gateway guarded by two angels. The three Stuarts are buried in the crypt below the basilica.
