Testing oils used to saturate dugout screen blankets for their permeability to noxious gases. The apparatus pictured is the standard chloropicrin apparatus, created at the American University and utilized at the Pittsburgh petroleum laboratory. This was part of the war work conducted by the Bureau of Mines in November 1918.
