Swaziland or Zulu Cycad, Encephalartos senticosus, Zamiaceae, Encephalartoideae. A Rare Primitive Plant from South Africa. The Zamiaceae are woody unbranched or sparsely branched palmlike dioecious seed bearing trees or shrubs with thick pithy stems. Several species of Encephalartos are commonly referred to as bread palms or Kaffir bread since a bread like starchy food can be prepared from the centre of the stem. All the species of Encephalartos are endangered.
