Pudong is the modern hub of Shanghai's booming business district, and since the early 1990s has been transformed from marshy farmland into a mass of glittering tower blocks, as in this image. The main centre of Pudong is the area called Lujiazui, which is where these towers are located, among the tallest buildings in China. These buildings stand along the eastern bank of the Huangpu River, and the view seen in this image is shot from the Bund - the old colonial centre of Shanghai, on the Huangpu River's western bank.
