Moon, Apollo 11 image, 1969. This view of the whole moon was photographed from the Apollo 11 spacecraft during its journey homeward. When this picture was taken, the spacecraft was already 18,500 kilometres distant from the Moon. The Apollo 11 mission took place from 16 to 24 July 1969, and is famous for being the mission that landed humans on the Moon for the first time, returning them safely to Earth. This image was obtained on 21 July 1969.
