Central American migrants wait below a pedestrian walkway for a passing northbound train to hop, on their journey to the USA.

After almost a year of simmering conflict the Juan Diego Migrant shelter in the Lecheria neighborhood north of Mexico City, was symbolically closed by neighbors complaining of drugs, crime and unsanitary conditions on their streets. The Catholic Church, which runs the sanctuary for economic refugees from Central America, near the railroad lines that go north to the US border, then officially closed it on Monday July 9, 2012, leaving the migrants with no option for food or shelter in the area. With the shelter closed migrants have no option but to wait for the train below bridges that provide some shelter from rains and sun. This is the Independence Bridge in Tultitlan, about 3 kilometers north of the Juan Diego shelter.
