Close-up of a patch of purple jelly-cup fungus (Ascocoryne sarcoides) growing at the end of a cut log in the New Forest, Hampshire, UK. The asexual state known as Coryne dubia, is lobed and irregular in form and may occur unaccompanied by the sexual stage. The latter, more cup-like and regular in form, is usually densely gregarious and may cover large areas of fallen tree trunks.
