Angel Oak in Charleston SC is a live oak said to be the oldest living organism east of the Mississippi River.


The World Champion Angel Oak is a live oak or Quercus virginiana and is said to be the oldest living organism east of the Mississippi River. Age estimates range from 300- 400 years old to a legendary 1500 years old. It is named from previous owners Martha & Justin Angel, dating back to the early 1700's. It now is in it's own park owned by the city of Charleston South Carolina.
