Pictured Billy Greig with Sweedish Members Lennie Edman and Abbe Yassine Beared Villian meet up at Scott Monument, Billy Grieg the organiser Founded four years ago, the Bearded Villains is the world’s largest beard club with over 2500 members around the globe. The Scottish chapter has been on the go since last year and since then it has raised £4000 for Downs Syndrome Scotland, £7000 for Spina Bifida Scotland along with thousands to help other great causes. Two main European meets were held last year in Birmingham and Amsterdam and it’s Scotland’s turn this year. The Scots are holding a fund-raising European meet this coming weekend (September 7,8,9), the main focus of which will be at the Voodoo Rooms in Edinburgh which will be attended by bearded members from as far afield as Canada and the USA. The Edinburgh meet, or EdinBEARD as it has been coined, will take place over three days and they’re hoping to make it as successful as possible with all money raised going to Cash For Kids. They pride themselves on the money they have raised, the good causes they help and how they strive to help others less fortunate such as: · Buying clothes, water and hygiene essentials for the homeless. · Bought special helmets for kids born with soft skulls. · Sending kids on holiday. · Funded a wheelchair for a disabled person. One of the Scottish founders set up an online charity room last May where bids can be made on donated items and to date £50,000 has been raised.
