Casa Bloc, by Josep Lluís Sert. 1936. Barcelona.

Casa Bloc, by Josep Lluís Sert. 1936. Barcelona. Bloc House is a residential building constructed between 1932 and 1936 which is in the Sant Andreu district of Barcelona. Its architects were Josep Lluís Sert (1902-1983), Josep Torres Clavé (1906-1939) and Joan Baptista Subirana (1904-1978), all members of GATCPAC (Group of Catalan Architects and Technicians for the Progress of 'Contemporary Architecture). Today, the Casa Bloc is considered a symbol of rationalist architecture in Barcelona promoted by the Generalitat of Catalonia during the Second Republic, since at the time was a social innovation, integrated into the urban environment and functional homes conceived as accommodation minimum standard for workers. It was a project that took into account the relationship between the new building and the resulting urban morphology, thus posing a new model for Barcelona the twentieth century opposed but not contradictory, in the Eixample nineteenth century. In 1992 the Government of Catalonia declared the architectural ensemble of Cultural Interest in the Monument category.
