Front view, facing south, of the Chi Lin Nunney main temple, Diamond Hill, Kowloon, Hong Kong, China

The Chi Lin Nunnery, at Diamond Hill, Kowloon, is a large Buddhist complex, founded in 1934 and re-built in Tang Dynasty Style (618-906 AD) in 1990. The timber buildings, with no iron nails, are the only ones in modern-day Hong Kong to be built with the interlocking system of traditional Chinese architecture. The high-rise apartment blocks of Kowloon surround the Nunnery, which is backed by mountains and faces south towards the sea.
