Tourist souvenirs on sale in the local market, Acre (Akko) northern Israel

The fortress city of Acre was the last crusader stronghold in the Holy Land. When the city was conquered by the Moslems in 1291, the surviving crusaders and their families were able to flee on board ships that were able to access the harbor. Today, the inhabitants of this fascinating city live amidst the ruins of the crusader city, many living in buildings that date back to that period.
